Salkehatchie is more than just a church outreach program, a volunteer group, or just another summer youth camp. Salkehatchie is faith in action.
From Saturday-Saturday, volunteers experience more than just a week of hard work. Salkehatchie helps families feel comfortable and secure in their homes through the dedication and love of volunteers, without a single full time or paid staff member.

Salkehatchie helps families in need who live not in distant lands but in neighborhoods and communities near the volunteers who serve. Supported entirely by its participants, communities it serves, and the United Methodist Church Conference of South Carolina, young people spend one week serving underprivileged families, learning about themselves, the world, and God.
A letter to our Salkehatchie family:
Participants and Supporters,
On behalf of the Salkehatchie Board of Managers: It is with saddened hearts that we inform you of the decision to cancel all Salkehatchie camps for 2020. This decision was made in conjunction with Bishop Holston, representatives of the Bishop’s Cabinet, and South Carolina United Methodist Conference staff.
The Salkehatchie Board of Managers want to challenge you to consider the things that make Salkehatchie an amazing ministry for you; helping the weak and weary, building hope and faithfulness and then find creative ways to serve the elderly in your neighborhood, your church and even your family during this tough time. We have found that the Lord of hosts is not just at Salkehatchie but with us always. Hebrews 13:16 Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
If you have questions, please feel free to email [email protected].

Beginning in 2020, registration for all camps will end 3 weeks prior to the first day of camp.
“Can we assemble a small Salkehatchie team to work on a house this summer?”
In response to the several inquiries regarding the assembling of Salkehatchie teams under the Salkehatchie banner to help with home repairs across the state in 2020, we are writing this notice. Under no circumstances will Salkehatchie teams be assembled under the Salkehatchie banner to help with home repairs across the state or any other gathering. Any action to the contrary will be against Salkehatchie policy and the Bishop’s and Board of Managers’ approval.
